Message from Gail and Tom
February, 2006
To the Citizens of the Cornwall area:
Congratulations! Together, we have achieved an incredible milestone. As of February 3, the Our Hospital,
Our Future fund raising campaign has eclipsed $10.4 million! We are overwhelmed by the response from a community that has believed in and supported the hospital campaign from its very beginning.
Generous support has come from every corner of our community. Businesses, individuals, seniors, students, institutions and agencies have all come together to
make the Our Hospital, Our Future campaign a success.
It is clear that Health Minister George Smitherman recognized our community’s commitment in December when he gave us the go-ahead to start the $3.5 million Obstetrics, Critical Care and Emergency departments’ renovations, and released $7.5 million dollars to complete the design work on the whole project.
However, our journey is not yet over. Because of the huge backlog of infrastructure projects in the province, David Caplan, Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal has indicated that the main part of the project will be delayed until 2008.
The growing cost of construction due to the new date means we need to reset our fundraising goal to $12 million dollars. We believe this is a realistic goal and are committed to achieving it.
The generosity of our community has been heartwarming. If you have not yet given, please take a moment to consider how important the Cornwall Community Hospital is to you, your family, and future generations. Please join the thousands within our community that have so generously supported the hospital campaign.
Co-Chairing the fundraising for Our Hospital, Our Future has been the most gratifying experience we have ever had.
We thank all of you from the bottom of
our hearts for giving us this opportunity.
Sincerely,
Tom & Gail Kaneb
