We Did It! Campaign Reaches $12 Million!
They said it couldn’t be done. Our Hospital, Our Future, the largest fund raising campaign in the history of the City has come to an incredibly successful close with the community raising an unprecedented $12,167,887! The announcement was made during the campaign ‘Celebration’ held Saturday afternoon at the Cornwall Civic Complex.
“It is an incredible feeling to know that our community has responded in such a wonderful manner,” said Gail Kaneb, who, along with her husband Tom, Co-Chaired the Fund raising campaign. “We knew the people of the Cornwall region would come through and they did.”
The campaign began almost a year and a half ago with the community share of the estimated cost of the restructuring project set at $10 million. The Health Ministry approved the Cornwall plan but budgetary constraints in the Infrastructure Ministry resulted in a two-year delay and an increase in the community’s share to $12 million.
“The entire campaign has been a community effort,” noted Hospital Board Chair, Mike Warden. “Everyone, from the many volunteers to businesses, agencies and individuals pitched in and supported the campaign. It is a tribute to the entire community that the goal was not only achieved, it was surpassed. The Cornwall region should be very proud of its accomplishment.”
The hospital restructuring will get underway this summer with an ‘early works’ project that includes major renovations to the Obstetrics and Critical Care and Emergency departments. The bulk of the project will begin in April, 2008.
