The Trillium Ball Committee and the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation are pleased to announce that Dr. Ralph Randlett and his daughter-in-law, Dr. Mary Jane Randlett, fixtures in the Cornwall medical community since 1955, and 1991 respectively will be the Honourary Co-Chairs of the 2007 Trillium Ball.

In 2006, the event raised $65,000 for the Hospital Foundation.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Ralph Randlett and Dr. Mary Jane Randlett take part in our prestigious event. Together, they represent the past, present and future of Health Care in our community” said Lynn Chauvin, Event Chairman.

An illustrious affair, the Trillium Ball is the gala event of the year for Cornwall and surrounding area with proceeds supporting the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation. From the prominent guest list to the dazzling décor and elegant dinner, this exquisite black tie gala will be held at the Best Western Parkway Inn & Conference Centre on Saturday May 5, 2007.

“I am pleased to serve as the Honourary Co-Chair for this important cause dedicated to raising funds for our hospital. I’m very excited to take part in an evening where everyone can put on their dancing shoes while attending a luxurious gala and where all proceeds raised will help purchase urgently needed hospital equipment.” said Dr. Ralph Randlett.

“The Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation is committed to raising funds for equipment for the Cornwall Community Hospital,” said Connie Vardy, Executive Director, Hospital Foundation. “The Trillium Ball, is an important fundraiser that helps us meet this commitment. Most satisfying is to see, once again, what can happen when the community made up of volunteer organizers, corporate partners and attendees work together toward a common goal.”

Dr. Ralph Patterson Randlett
Dr. Randlett will always be known as the first Board Certified Surgeon to restrict his practice exclusively to surgery in Cornwall. A fellow of the Canadian Royal College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Randlett has been in Cornwall’s medical community since 1955, before the St-Lawrence Seaway was opened, touching the lives of countless local families.

Dr. Randlett was born in Hamilton, and raised in Verdun, Quebec. He graduated from McGill University in Medicine in 1949, the same year he married the love of his life, Deltra. Deltra grew up in Berwick and graduated from the Cornwall General Hospital nursing program in 1944. She was working in Montreal as a nurse at the time they met. It took Deltra only 6 years to convince Dr. Randlett to move to Cornwall. Dr. Randlett retired in the mid eighties.

Dr. Mary Jane Randlett
Dr. Mary Jane Randlett moved to Cornwall in 1991. The wife of Doug Randlett, she is a well-known family physician with a large palliative practice. Her compassionate care and medical skills have proven to be an invaluable source of comfort to many local families.

Dr. Randlett was born in Moncton, New Brunswick and graduated from Dalhousie University in Medecine in 1983.
