Early works Project/Capital Redevelopment Project

We are excited to report the first part of the hospital redevelopment project has been completed! The Critical Care Unit has been in their newly renovated home on the fifth floor for over a month now. This first completed renovation was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 14th 2007.

Renovations in the former auditorium are nearing completion. This temporary trauma area will be open while the current Acute Care Zone undergoes its own renovation. The specific date when the switch will occur is July 24th, 2007.

Labour and Delivery have also started their renovations. 6th Floor East has been completely closed off for demolition. The case rooms that used to occupy this area have been temporarily moved to 6 South. Once demolition is complete, the new Labour and Delivery Suites will start to take shape in this area. Let’s remember that the “Early Works” project is the first phase of the Redevelopment project. The pre-tender documents for the next phase (being the bigger construction project) are between 60% and 100% complete. The goal is to have them complete by July 07 for submission to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care for final approval to proceed with construction in 2008.

Other Renovations

X-ray room #1 has had a minor renovation and will be operational by the end of June 2007 with a new digital x-ray machine.
