15 MILESTONES, 14 WEEKS:
ONLY DONORS MAKE POSSIBLE A BETTER-EQUIPPED HOSPITAL

October 23, 2007, Cornwall, Ont.: The Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation today announced that 15 milestones were accomplished in 14 weeks thanks to the generosity of donors who supported the purchase of equipment and renovations tallying $126,400.

One of the outstanding accomplishments from the fundraising period of April through August was in the field of diabetes, and made possible by the late John Angus Carther, a man whose family farmed within what is now, Cornwall City limits. Carther died three years ago at the age of 101 but made long term provision for the hospital in his will.

“Mr. Carther’s generosity to the foundation allowed the hospital to acquire two new pieces of equipment for the diabetes clinic,” said Connie Vardy who is the executive director of the Foundation.

“We all know Type 2 diabetes is one of the fastest growing diseases in Canada,” added Roy Perkins, Foundation chairperson. “And we need to ensure our doctors and nurses have the tools to continue to deliver first-class care.”

But beyond equipment for diabetes care, Foundation donors also helped departments such as physiotherapy.

“The new parallel bars are essential in helping stroke victims, accident victims and other types of patients learn to walk again,” said Chantal Mageau-Pinard, CCH Physiotherapist.

One of the key goals of the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation is to raise funds for medical equipment, and it asks donors to keep the following in mind: A well-equipped hospital is essential. It improves our chances of attracting the best medical practitioners who can provide the highest standards of care.
