The Harkai Families makes a generous donation

Recently, the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation received a generous gift from the Harkai family. In Memory of John Harkai Sr., the family donated a beautiful painting, which adorns the walls of the Palliative Care Department here at Cornwall Community Hospital. Moved by the familie’s generosity and equally by their story we hope you’ll join us as we thank them for their thoughtfulness.
On November 7th, 2007 John Harkai Sr. suddenly passed away. As a token of his memory John Jr. painted a beautiful sunset by the water. What is so touching about this story is how John Jr. suffered from a stroke a few years back leaving the right side of his body paralyzed. As a right handed individual, the thought of painting again would seem impossible; however, despite his suffering, John Jr. painted his sunset in its entirety with his left hand - a true devotion of love, determination and admiration!
We are honoured to be the recipients of such a beautiful gift and offer our sincerest thank you to Mrs. Elizabeth Harkai for her generosity and thoughtfulness in sharing this story and painting with us.

Cornwall Community Hospital is a 170-bed acute care hospital operating on two sites in the city of Cornwall, located in Eastern Ontario along the St. Lawrence River. With a staff of over 1000 employees, Cornwall Community Hospital serves acute, in-patient, out-patient and community based clients. The hospital provides a wide range of medical specialties. Cornwall Community Hospital was incorporated in 2004 with the amalgamation of the Cornwall General Hospital and the acute care services of the Hotel Dieu Hospital, both with over 100 years of health care service to Cornwall and surrounding area. In 2006, the Canadian Council of Health Services Accreditation accredited Cornwall Community Hospital.
