Stormont Seaway Lions Gives From Their Hearts for Our Tiniest Patients
Carol Whtie
As a Charter group that's been in place since 1983/84 Stormont Seaway Lions consists of about 10 members. But don't go thinking this group is too small to make a difference. Each member has the heart of a lion and that adds up to good news for CCH Pediatrics Department as well as children and their families.
While the group has always had a "focus" on sight/optic related causes, they are also strong supporter of children's' causes including the Children's Wish Foundation. Members Donald McCarthy and Bryan Duvall were on hand recently to present a cheque for $17,080 to CCH Foundation Executive Director Connie Vardy. The funds will furnish 4 rooms in Pediatrics with TV, DVD, overbed table, night stand, sleep chair and visitor chair. Sleeper chairs provide the means for a family member to stay overnight with their child and serve as a sofa type armchair when closed.
It was also extremely important to the group to equip the rooms with rocking chairs. As a grandparent who knows first hand how soothing a rocker can be to a sick infant, Don McCarthy feels very close to this cause. He said, "I really wanted to make a difference in comfort for families facing the painful experience of watching over a sick child". Now parents can rock their angels to sleep and grab a few precious winks for themselves as they remain vigilant around the clock. Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation recognizes how these added comforts will be appreciated by families and wishes to thank Stormont Seaway Lions for their very generous and meaningful donation.
