Our Hospital, Our Future
The new Cornwall Community Hospital will have significant
impact on the delivery of health care in Cornwall and area.
Increased capacity means the ability to offer more services and
deal with higher patient volumes; reducing lineups, delays and
the need to travel for primary patient care. Modern facilities will
give our dedicated health care professionals the up- to- date working
environment they need to provide quality medical care, while
attracting more physicians, nurses and technicians to fill our
staffing shortages.
The Hospital will continue to operate as the largest employer in
the City of Cornwall and the United Counties with a staff of 1,100.
With redevelopment and consolidation of services, the Cornwall
Community Hospital will realize an expected annual savings of
$2.5 million in overhead costs.
Our Hospital
The new Cornwall Community Hospital will offer the services of 40 departments, covering the full
continuum of primary care. With the input of 19 design teams (including hospital staff and physicians), the new facility is well planned for both proximity between connected services and patient privacy. Future growth on the 25- acre McConnell site has also been considered, along with the accompanying need for expanding parking capacity.
An 'early works' project is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2006. This
$3.5 million project will see major renovations to the Obstetrics, Critical Care and Emergency Departments. The bulk of the project will begin in 2008. The total $59.9 million figure is the cost up to the expected tender date (not including inflationary costs). We will retain cost consultants and monitor project expenditures as each stage is completed, a process required by the Ministry to ensure there are no financial surprises.
Our Future
The Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation; the Province of Ontario; the City of Cornwall;
the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry; and Akwesasne are all strong supporters
of this project. However, community support is the key to the success of the Cornwall Community
Hospital redevelopment. With the provincial funding expected to contribute $37.1 million and
$12.8 million anticipated from the municipalities, the Our Hospital, Our Future Campaign aims to
raise the remaining $10 million.
But it’s much more than a fiscal issue. In fact, our community’s enthusiasm and support will be the
driving force behind governments’ commitment now and their timely action throughout construction.
Most important, every gift to the Our Hospital, Our Future
Campaign goes directly to patient care areas. That means you’re
investing in what matters most to us all: The health and quality of
life of our families, friends and neighbours. The Cornwall
Community Hospital will touch the life of every member of our community in
the years to come.
